Mission
The mission of the English Language Development Department is to successfully educate Yorba English Learners through designated and interdiscipline/integrated support as aligned with the California ELD Standards and Curriculum Framework . This includes providing instruction that reflects rigor, multiculturalism and equity. Our goal for students is to master English listening, speaking, reading and writing skills that are transferrable across their core subjects to promote collaboration, communication, critical thinking and creative expression.
Courses Overview
ELD courses are designed for all students to acquire communicative competence in English while simultaneously completing grade-level core curriculum, promotion requirements and work towards reclassification. ELD courses facilitate opportunities for students to interact in meaningful ways, learn about how English works and use foundational literacy skills. Research based/best practices, such as G.L.A.D., Thinking Maps, A.V.I.D., scaffolding and the usage of appropriate technology, are incorporated to address the unique ELD needs of Emerging, Expanding and Bridging level students.
