What is AVID?
AVID, which stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination, is a college readiness program designed to help students develop the skills they need to be successful in college.

Orange Unified School District started offering AVID classes to its middle and high school students with the goal to help support all students in their efforts to attend post-secondary education. The program places special emphasis on growing writing, critical thinking, teamwork, organization and reading skills.

Taft Elementary School is currently offering the AVID Elementary program to 3rd through 6th grade students, but many AVID strategies are in all grades, schoolwide.  This program is designed to develop encompassing communication, organization, and writing skills necessary to higher education.
