Academics
Sycamore has received several academic honors in recent years, including California Blue Ribbon Award nominee in 2014, California Gold Ribbon School in 2016, and Title I Distinguished School Award in 2014 & 2016. Three important areas of focus for Sycamore are:
Critical Standards - This link will take you to our Critical Standards Newsletter, with a guide to important standards that should be mastered at each grade level.
AVID - Advancement Via Individual Determination. We are currently actively using AVID teaching and learning strategies with fully trained teachers in grades 3-6. We have begun to collaborate as a staff to incorporate AVID strategies in all grade levels in order to build a college-going culture schoolwide.
Robotics - Our after school Robotics teams for 4th - 6th grades meet weekly to create and run robots they will use to compete with against other schools at the Spring Science Night at Santiago Canyon College and a district-wide Robotics competition. Our primary grades also get to experience an introduction to Robotics on a weekly basis, alternating different primary grades during different months.
STREAM - STREAM stands for Science Technology Robotics Engineering Arts and Math. Sycamore is proud to have a STREAM Lab where teachers bring students weekly to engage in lessons in any of these areas. This lab contains a 3D printer, several computers, a variety of different robots, coding devices, and many supplies for students to utilize when participating in engineering and scientific inquiry, fostering 21st Century learning skills.
