Principal's Message/Mission

Hello!

I am both honored and excited to introduce myself as the new principal of Serrano Elementary. As I step into this role, I do so with deep gratitude, a commitment to connection, and a vision that centers on student growth, partnership, and purpose.

With over 23 years of experience in education—spanning roles as a teacher, instructional coach, assistant principal, and principal across grades K–12—I’ve come to believe one truth above all: all knowledge begins with connection. Whether it’s the bond between a teacher and student, the collaboration between staff and families, or the trust we build as a school community, learning happens when people feel seen, heard, and valued.

At my core, I lead with the heart of a parent and the mind of an administrator. As a proud mom of four incredible kids, I understand the hopes, questions, and dreams that families carry for their children. I strive to lead the kind of school where I would be proud to send my own children—a place where every child is challenged, supported, celebrated, and safe.

As we begin this new chapter together, my focus will be on listening, learning, and building strong relationships with each of you. I believe in shared leadership, high expectations with high support, and keeping students at the center of every decision.

I look forward to meeting you in the days and weeks ahead—at drop-off, in classrooms, during events, and throughout the hallways. My door is always open, and I welcome your thoughts, ideas, and feedback as we work together to make Serrano Elementary the best it can be.

Here’s to a year of connection, growth, and joyful learning!

This is going to be a great year, and I can’t wait to get started,

With hope,

Ms. Gerlach
