Dear Serrano Families,

All students in 1st through 6th grade receive a program of instruction on drug education and the effects of the use of tobacco.  Serrano Elementary School utilizes Too Good for Drugs (TGFD) as the prevention program that is designed to reduce students' intention to use alcohol, tobacco, and illegal drugs, while promoting prosocial attitudes, skills, and behaviors. The program seeks to build the self-confidence of students so they are better able to make healthy choices and achieve success. Promoting positive, prosocial attitudes and fostering healthy relationships is a running theme throughout the program’s curriculum. Overall, TGFD seeks to develop positive peer norms; appropriate attitudes toward alcohol, tobacco, and illegal drug use; knowledge of the negative consequences of alcohol, tobacco, and illegal drug use; and finally the knowledge of the benefits of living a drug-free lifestyle.

If you have questions about the program in a specific grade, please contact your child’s teacher.  He/she will be happy to discuss Too Good for Drugs with you.

Best regards,

Mr. Nathan Garrett
