International Baccalaureate (IB)

Learning in the PYP is organized around six transdisciplinary themes that connect learning across subject areas and encourage students to explore issues of local and global significance. The six themes are:

• Where We Are in Place and Time
• How We Express Ourselves
• How the World Works
• How We Organize Ourselves
• Sharing the Planet

Inquiry-Based Learning

We strive for our students to ask questions, investigate ideas, make connections, and construct their own understandings. We want our students to be active participants in their learning, not just passive recipients of information.

Conceptual Understanding

PYP schools know that memorizing information has its place but helping students connect that information to real-world contexts and universal concepts is what is going to make the learning meaningful and long-lasting.

Agency and Action

When students have agency in their learning-- voice, choice, and ownership-- they are more likely to be engaged and motivated. Furthermore, PYP schools encourage students to use their learning to make a positive contribution within the classroom, school and community.

International Mindedness

Students develop respect for different perspectives, cultures, and ways of thinking.

The IB learner profile represents the qualities we strive to develop in every student. These attributes help students become lifelong learners and responsible members of local and global communities.

The Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills helps students become independent, self-directed learners. These 5 skills are intentionally taught throughout each school year.
