Awards and Recognition

·At Nohl Canyon, we strive on building positive character along with our students becoming well-rounded citizens.  Throughout the year, students are recognized for their positive behavior and excellent academic efforts!  

Student of the Month Awards: LINK

o   SOM character traits are taken from John Wooden’s book “Inch and Miles: The Journey to Success”

o   Each month, the character trait is portrayed on a banner, which hangs in our quad area.

o   For awards, I visit each classroom and recognize the one student recipient for that month’s theme, chosen by the teacher (in some classes{upper grade}, students vote for a peer student who they feel best demonstrates the character trait)

o   A picture is taken of each recipient with myself and posted on the weekly school newsletter

o   For the months of November, March, and June, there is no SOM, as we hold our Trimester RAD awards.

 

Trimester RAD Awards (Respectful, Accountable, Dedicated)

o   Each Trimester, teachers will choose students who best demonstrated the RAD acronym (Respectful, Accountable, Dedicated) throughout the Trimester – RAD Description

o   Teachers also recognize 1 student who embraces all 3 of the RAD descriptions for the OUTSTANDING Roadrunner Award

o   During the Trimester Awards ceremony, the parents/family members of the recipient students are invited by the classroom teacher to attend.

o   For the 2022-2023 school year we hold 4 different ceremonies; 1) TK/K, 2) 1^st/2^nd, 3) 3^rd/4^th, 4) 5^th/6^th

6^th Grade Promotion – Gold and Silver Awards

o   During the 6^th Grade promotion ceremony, students are recognized for the academic achievement in 4^th, 5^th and 6^th grade.

o   Students earning the Presidential Silver award have a combined GPA of 3.5 to 3.74, with no N’s on report cards

o   Students earning the Presidential Gold award have a combined GPA of 3.75 and higher, with no N’s
