Ernest “Ernie” Gonzalez was appointed Superintendent of Schools by the Board of Education on August 17, 2023. He had previously been appointed acting Superintendent by the Board on March 2.
“OUSD is a great district, and I am thrilled to lead it,” said Gonzalez. “We have high-quality staff who deliver a world-class educational program to our very talented students. Together, with students, staff, parents, and community members, I am confident we can take OUSD to new heights.”
Gonzalez previously served the District as executive director and then assistant superintendent, both in Human Resources. Prior to his appointment to the Human Resources office, Gonzalez served for five years as Orange High School’s principal. He came to Orange Unified in 2010 after serving as an administrator at the elementary, middle, and high school levels and as a teacher, activities director, and project coordinator in Los Angeles County. He holds a master’s degree in educational leadership from Azusa Pacific University and a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary humanities and history from the University of San Diego. He also holds an Administrative Services Credential, Single Subject Teaching Credential in Social Science with CLAD, and completed the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) Personnel Academy.
