More than 275 fourth- through sixth-grade students in the Orange Unified School District participated this summer in the district’s first College & Career Exploration Camp, a program designed to introduce elementary students to hands-on learning experiences tied to real-world professions.

Veteran OUSD bus driver Damon Nixon has driven everything from diesel to compressed natural gas—but says electric buses are a clear improvement: “They’re faster, smoother, quieter, and there’s no smoke or fumes.”
Since 2021, OUSD has been upgrading its fleet to cleaner, more efficient buses. We now have 17 electric buses on the road, with 17 more on the way. Our fleet also includes CNG, gasoline, and diesel vehicles.
Thanks to new state funding, more districts across California—including rural and underserved communities—will be able to modernize their fleets. OUSD is proud to lead the way in providing safe, sustainable transportation for our students.
In its weekly news roundup, the OCDE Newsroom highlighted a partnership between Orange Unified School District and the Orange Public Library to provide free summer meals for children. The El Modena Branch, where the program is being offered, is part of this collaboration, though not mentioned by name in the article.

Happy Spelling Bee season. El Rancho Charter School student Sydney Tran is representing Orange County and the Orange Unified School District on one of the biggest academic stages in the country — the 100th annual Scripps National Spelling Bee, currently underway in Washington, D.C.
