College Admission Requirements

11th Grade SBAC Testing for CSU College Admissions

Each year, 11th grade students participate in the CAASPP (California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress) assessment. This assessment measures progress on math and language arts in grades 3-8 and 11.

This assessment is important for 11th grade students because it is used for course placement once the students have been admitted to the CSU (California State University).   Admissions considerations are given for each student’s grade point average and A-G coursework.

Students planning to attend a university within the CSU system are placed into classes based on how they score on their 11th grade spring assessment (CAASPP), or AP or IB exams or college transfer work.

To be considered to enter into a General Education English Course at a CSU, students MUST meet the following requirements:

  • Standard Exceeded or met on the CAASPP English Assessment
  • Attain a C- or better in a year-long senior English course (CSU Expository Reading & Writing, Advanced Placement, or English 12 Honors weighted)
  • Weighted GPA of 3.33 or above (or a 3.0 on English coursework)

If students do not meet these requirements listed above, prerequisite coursework is required upon admissions.  CSU is considered “test optional” for admissions.  Considerations for the SAT and ACT are also made for course placement. • Attain a C- or better in a math course beyond Math III (if the student scored as “Standard Met” on the CAASPP)
  • Weighted GPA of 3.7 or above (or 3.5 or above and enrollment in 4 years of math)

If students do not meet these requirements listed above, prerequisite coursework is required upon admissions. CSU is considered “test optional” for admissions.  Considerations for the SAT and ACT are also made for course placement.  For more information, please visit https://csustudentsuccess.org/estimator/math-pre-stem/ge-math-placement-estimator.
