"Expose, Explore, Experience"
The Orange Unified School District's STEM vision begins in elementary school. The goal is to introduce and "expose" elementary students to possible STEM career options for the future. STEM-literate students are able to understand and use concepts from science, technology, engineering and mathematics to understand complex problems. They are innovative and understand the importance of the connection between the 4 C’s and the world of work. A STEM literate student demonstrates understanding of how STEM can improve the social, cultural, economic, and environmental conditions of their local and global communities. Finally, a STEM-literate student can relate all learning inside classrooms to college majors and career choices. Teachers in many of the OUSD elementary schools utilize STEM Labs to teach curricular content to scholars in meaningful, integrated ways.
