Transportation

This sector is designed to provide a foundation in transportation services for all industrial technology education students in California. There are eight focus areas that fall under the Transportation sector, each with different career opportunities. The focus areas are On-Road; Off-Road; Stationary; Rail; Water/Sea; Air; Space; and Small Engines and Specialty Equipment. The pathways in the Transportation sector emphasize real-world, occupationally relevant experiences of significant scope and depth in three areas: Operations, Structural Repair and Refinishing, and Systems Diagnostics, Service, and Repair. The standards are designed to integrate academic and technical preparation and focus on career awareness, career exploration, and skill preparation in the three pathways. Integral components include classroom, laboratory, and hands-on contextual learning; project- and work-based instruction; and leadership development. The standards in this sector prepare students for continued training, postsecondary education, and entry to a career.

Automotive Systems

The Systems Diagnostics, Service, and Repair pathway prepares students for postsecondary education and employment in the transportation industry, which includes motor vehicles and small-engine and specialty equipment. Students will demonstrate the practice of personal and occupational safety in accordance with manufacturer and industry standards while practicing the safe and appropriate use of tools, equipment, and work processes. In addition, they will also execute and document maintenance procedures in alignment with manufacturer recommendations, demonstrating the application, operation maintenance and diagnosis of engines.

Aviation

Canyon's award-winning Aviation Pathway introduces students to the vast opportunities in the realm of Aviation and Aerospace. There is a strong demand for qualified candidates within the industry. Aviation 1 introduces students to learn about the history of Aviation and the variety of careers available throughout the Aviation industry while engaging in a variety of interactive and practical activities. Aviation 2 focuses on non-pilot careers supplemented with field trips, guest speakers and more. Students will complete a full private pilot ground school and flight simulator training in Aviation 3 while undergoing training that integrates content pertinent to the broader context of Aviation.

Pathway Completion Criteria

To be considered a Career Technical Education (CTE) Pathway completer, students must complete an 02 and 03 CTE course within the same pathway. Students must obtain a D- or higher in the 02 course and a minimum of a C- or higher in the 03 course.

Students will receive a tassel to wear at graduation for each pathway completed.

Students must complete a pathway (taking an 02 and an 03 course with a B- or higher) to apply for the Professional Internship course.
