ORANGE, Calif. — September 2026 — While scholars enjoyed their summer break, Orange Unified School District’s Facilities and Maintenance teams were hard at work preparing campuses for the 2026–2027 school year, completing a wide range of improvements designed to create safer, more welcoming and more functional learning environments.
From refreshed outdoor spaces and new digital marquees to classroom learning walls and athletic facility upgrades, summer projects took place across schools throughout the District.
“Investing in our schools means investing in the environments where our scholars and staff spend their days,” said Superintendent Dr. Rachel H. Monárrez. “These improvements reflect our commitment to being thoughtful stewards of public funds while creating spaces that support learning, connection and the success of every scholar.”
Improvements Across OUSD Campuses
Several campuses received significant asphalt improvements this summer, including refreshed lunch areas, parking lots and other high-use spaces. New striping and other improvements provide cleaner, more functional outdoor areas for the new school year.
The District also completed the installation of new digital marquees at nine campuses:
- Jordan Elementary School
- Handy Elementary School
- Panorama Elementary School
- Villa Park Elementary School
- Olive Elementary School
- West Orange Elementary School
- Palmyra Elementary School
- Esplanade Elementary School
- Sycamore Elementary School
The new digital marquees provide updated, highly visible spaces for schools to welcome families and share important information and announcements.
Inside classrooms, new learning walls were installed in every classroom at five elementary schools: Handy, California, Palmyra, La Veta, and Cambridge. The improvements provide more functional and flexible classroom environments designed to support modern teaching and learning.
Additional summer projects included:
- New storage sheds
- Roofing improvements
- Flooring upgrades
- Athletic facility improvements
- New and improved fencing
- Campus painting
- Renovated spaces
- Outdoor area improvements
- Other site-specific maintenance and facility projects
Together, these projects represent continued investment in OUSD campuses and the spaces where scholars learn, grow and thrive.
Orange Unified remains committed to using public resources responsibly while investing in facilities that serve scholars, staff and the broader community.
Valuing every dollar. Excellence for every scholar.
