Orange Unified School District Honors 2024–25 Employees of the Year, with Nine Standout Staff Recognized for Excellence in Education and Service

ORANGE, CA – On Tuesday, May 13, 2025, the Orange Unified School District proudly hosted its annual Employee of the Year Celebration, recognizing outstanding staff from across the District for their exceptional dedication and contributions to students, schools, and the community. 

The event, held at the Fred Kelly Stadium, brought together teachers, classified staff, administrators, board members, community partners, and families for an afternoon of celebration. Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources Tracy Knibb welcomed attendees and introduced Superintendent Michael L. Christensen, who opened the program by honoring the service and spirit of this year’s nominees. 

Special guests included board trustees, representatives from SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union, Orange Unified Public Schools Foundation President Frank Tucker, OUEA and CSEA leadership, and members of the executive cabinet. 

Site nominees were individually recognized, as were the District’s nine Employees of the Year, who were honored with video tributes, awards, and professional portraits to be displayed in the District boardroom throughout the year.

Certificated Employees of the Year (Teachers) 

Elena Dull – Orange High School 
A passionate and student-centered educator, Elena Dull brings energy and enthusiasm to her classroom every day. Known for her innovative teaching practices and ability to build meaningful relationships with students, she fosters a learning environment that is both rigorous and supportive. Elena exemplifies OUSD’s commitment to academic excellence and equity. 

Kristin Safa – Chapman Hills Elementary School 
With a gift for engaging young learners, Kristin Safa is a beloved elementary teacher who creates a vibrant and inclusive classroom culture. Her dedication to student success, collaborative spirit, and instructional creativity have made her a leader on campus and an inspiration to colleagues. 

Lynne Palucki – McPherson Magnet School 
Lynne Palucki stands out for her integrative teaching approach, helping students connect learning to real-world experiences. At McPherson Magnet, she is celebrated for fostering critical thinking, hands-on learning, and STEM literacy while nurturing each student’s individual potential. 

Classified Employees of the Year 

Guillermo "Memo" Gutierrez – Custodian, McPherson Magnet School 
Guillermo Gutierrez is known for his tireless work ethic, positive attitude, and dedication to maintaining a clean and safe environment for students and staff. His pride in his work and caring presence on campus make him a treasured member of the school community. 

Linda McCausland – Library Media Tech II, Linda Vista Elementary School 
A champion of literacy and learning, Linda McCausland curates a warm and welcoming library space for all students. Her resourcefulness, attention to detail, and commitment to student access to literature are invaluable to the academic success of Linda Vista Elementary. 

Rosa Retiguin – Instructional Assistant, La Veta Elementary School 
Rosa Retiguin supports students with care, patience, and professionalism. Her ability to connect with children and contribute meaningfully to instructional goals makes her a vital asset to her school team and a daily source of encouragement for the students she serves. 

Administrators of the Year 

Dennis McCuistion – Principal, Villa Park High School 
A dynamic and student-focused leader, Dennis McCuistion has led Villa Park High School with integrity and vision. His commitment to school culture, academic growth, and student engagement has positively transformed the high school experience for students and staff alike. 

Lisa Green – Executive Director, K–12 Curriculum 
With a strategic eye and deep instructional knowledge, Lisa Green has guided curriculum development and implementation across OUSD. Her leadership ensures that all students have access to high-quality, standards-aligned instruction that prepares them for success in college, career, and life. 

Diana Gaeta – Director, Risk Management and Safety 
Diana Gaeta plays a critical role in ensuring student and staff safety across the District. Through meticulous planning, clear communication, and a proactive mindset, Diana has elevated OUSD’s emergency preparedness and risk mitigation efforts. 

 

In addition to being recognized at the District celebration, the honorees were also celebrated at a recent Angels Baseball game as part of a regional recognition of school employees. 

“We are incredibly proud of our site nominees and District Employees of the Year,” said Superintendent Michael L. Christensen. “These individuals represent the heart of Orange Unified, and their service makes a profound impact on our students and in our schools and community.”
