Freddie Freeman Clubhouse Opens at El Modena High School

March 26, 2024 - Orange, Calif. – The opening ceremony for the baseball clubhouse at El Modena High School was held this afternoon to celebrate the new facility named in honor of EMHS alumnus and professional baseball player Freddie Freeman.

“When I was able to be blessed enough to have the resources to do something like this, that’s what I wanted to create,” said Freeman. "The relationships, the bonds, the stories—everything you share in that clubhouse is special. That’s what’s going to last forever. That’s what it’s all about for me.”

The Freeman family joined past and present El Modena Vanguard baseball coaches, players and their families, OUSD administrators, and community members to commemorate the new building with heartfelt speeches and a ribbon cutting. Freddie and Chelsea Freeman also received a special recognition from EMHS PTSA President Wanda McWhirter, who presented the Freemans with an Honorary Service Award certificate and pin.

“It would be so easy with your career and family commitments to move on and forget about your past, but you are rooted to this school, and you choose to embrace it for the benefit of every Vanguard after you who will enjoy what you provided and will hopefully be inspired to provide for others as you have,” said former EMHS Head Baseball Coach Steve Bernard. “In all, Freddie Freeman is so much more than a great ballplayer – he is a great man. May we all be inspired to make a difference, to show how we care about the well-being and happiness of others as much as Freddie has shown us.”

Staff collaborated with Fred Freeman, Sr., and El Modena Varsity Baseball Head Coach Joshua Kliner on the scope of work that Freddie and Chelsea Freeman’s $500,000 charitable donation contributed to, including the purchase and installation of a new 1,440-square-foot modular baseball clubhouse; new, extended batting cages; and required code upgrades. The Freeman family visited EMHS to personally provide the ceremonial check to El Modena’s excited and grateful baseball players, coaches, and administrators last March.

“El Modena is a wonderful place to be, and we’re honored that you look back at your time being a Vanguard positively and not only come back but give back to your community,” said Kliner. “We thank you for everything that you’ve given us. We’re so proud of you, everything that you’ve done, and everything that you continue to do.”

The Freemans' donation to the Freddie Freeman Clubhouse is the most generous donation the district has received from a private donor to date.

Orange Unified’s Board of Education is expected to officially approve the new facility’s name at their regular meeting on April 11.
