Did you know that Orange Unified School District offers a range of enriching summer opportunities for students, ensuring that learning continues year-round? Through the ESSER III Summer Grant Program, all eleven ASES elementary schools (California, Cambridge, Esplanade, Jordan, Prospect, Sycamore, West Orange, Fairhaven, Lampson, Taft, and Handy), as well as Portola and Yorba middle schools, have received funding to implement tailored summer programs that address students' academic and social needs.
These programs were designed by analyzing various assessments and data to effectively meet the requirements of each school's student population. The primary focus was on strategic students who needed additional support in English Language Arts (ELA) and/or math. This was particularly beneficial for English learners, providing them with ample opportunities to practice their language skills when they might not have had the chance otherwise.
In addition to the academic program, students were given the chance to participate in the Extended Learning Opportunities Program (ELOP) offered alongside the ASES program. ELOP provided nine hours per day, Monday through Friday, for students to engage in enrichment activities and sports, all at no cost.
To ensure students' well-being, all participants in the summer programs received complimentary on-site breakfast, lunch, and a late afternoon snack. This commitment to providing nutritious meals contributes to a conducive learning environment.
The ASES and ELOP Summer Programs in Orange Unified demonstrate the district's dedication to offering continuous educational and enrichment opportunities to help foster students’ overall development and academic success.
