The recipients of the “YOU’VE GOT THE EDGE” award for October 2023 are Tracy McMillen, Handy Elementary School teacher, and Lauren Volcan, Canyon Rim Elementary School office manager. Both Tracy and Lauren go above and beyond to serve the staff and students of the Orange Unified School District in ways that reflect the core values of OUSD’s EDGE.

Handy Elementary Principal Erika Krohn had this to say about Tracy: 

“Tracy McMillen currently serves as a Resource Teacher delivering effective reading and math interventions and English Learner support to our 1st-3rd graders. Her integrity and commitment to excellence are shown in her work with the student success team and working with staff and families to ensure the process is addressing student needs. All of her work is completed with a focus on excellence and with a focus on providing the best service possible to all students and their families. Handy Elementary is fortunate to have Tracy Mc Millen’s expertise and dedication to students! Her impact is endless!” 

Canyon Rim Elementary Principal Bree Tippets had this to say about Lauren: 

“Lauren Volcan has an outstanding commitment to integrity and excellence in all that she does. Her unwavering dedication to upholding our school's values and consistently delivering exceptional customer service to our students, staff, and families does not go unnoticed. Her integrity shines through in every decision she makes and her interactions with our families and school community. Her ideas and contributions truly have a profound impact on our school community. Thank you, Lauren, for being an inspiration to all of us here at Canyon Rim. Your hard work and integrity are truly appreciated!
