McPherson Magnet Students Advance to State Science & Engineering Fair

Orange, CA – April 22, 2020 – Orange Unified is proud to announce that McPherson Magnet School had several students advance to the state science fair competition from the county level competition (OCSEF). This was the first year that the competition was held virtually.

Led by Kayee Conrad (2016 OCSEF Teacher of the Year) and Shannon Duncan, McPherson students’ projects won the county competition in the following areas and many will move on to the state competition:

  • Matthew Pagaduan (6th grade) - 1st in Fluids/Aerodynamics - Will move on to the State Competition
  • Isaac Rivera (6th grade) – Botany, Honorable Mention
  • Darina Dang (8th grade) - Chemistry 2nd place. She will move on
  • Jolette Hernandez (8th grade) - special monetary award by the Energy Coalition
  • Angela Wang and Sage Samuel (7th grade) - Zoology, Honorable Mention

The projects that went to the county level were initially judged at McPherson’s science fair in February (this is a project that all middle school students participate in at McPherson). The McPherson science fair competition focused on communication skills - each student’s ability to convey project ideas and discoveries. Projects were judged at McPherson by community members who are actively engaged in science and work for companies such as NASA, Broadcom, Beckman, Disney, and Chapman University.

Estudiantes de McPherson Magnet Avanza a Nivel Estatal de la Feria de Ciencia e Ingeniería del Condado de Orange (OCSEF)

Orange, CA –22 de Abril 2020 – El Unificado de Orange se orgullece en anunciar la Escuela McPherson Magnet tuvo varias estudiantes que avanzaron a la competencia estatal de feria de ciencia de la competencia nivel de condado (OCSEF). Este fue el primer año que la competencia se llevó acabo virtualmente.  

Dirigido por Kayee Conrad (2016 OCSEF Maestra del Año) y Shannon Duncan, proyectos de estudiantes de McPherson ganaron la competencia de condado en las áreas siguiente y muchos pasaran a la competencia estatal:

  • Matthew Pagaduan (6o grado) – 1ro en Fluidos/Aerodinámicas – Pasara a la Competencia Estatal
  • Isaac Rivera (6o grado) – Botánica, Mención de Honor
  • Darina Dang (8o grado) - Química 2do lugar. Ella siguiriya adelante
  • Jolette Hernandez (8o grado) – premio monetario especial por la Coalición Energía
  • Angela Wang and Sage Samuel (7o grado) - Zoología, Mención de Honor

Los proyectos que fueron a nivel de condado fueron inicialmente juzgados en la feria de ciencia en McPherson en Febrero (esto es un proyecto que todos los estudiantes de la escuela intermedio participan en McPherson). La competencia en la feria de ciencia en McPherson se enfoca en las habilidades de comunicación-las habilidades de cada alumno para transmitir ideas y descubrimientos de proyectos. Los proyectos fueron juzgados en McPherson por miembros de la comunidad quienes participan activamente en la ciencia y trabajan con empresas como NASA, Broadcom, Beckman, Disney, y la Universidad de Chapman.
