Sycamore Elementary Receives Performing Arts Grant

Orange, CA – June 2, 2019 – Orange Unified School District is proud to announce that Sycamore Elementary School is a recipient of the Disney Musicals in Schools program grant through the Segerstrom Center for the Arts for the 2019-20 school year. Sycamore Elementary is the first school in Orange Unified to receive this opportunity.

Each year, four schools in Orange County are selected to receive the benefits of the Disney Musicals in Schools program, which includes two teaching artists working with teacher volunteers and 40-50 third through sixth-grade students for 17 weeks. Free licensing for a Disney Kids musical and showkit materials are also included, as the program concludes with a Disney musical performance  and the performance of a song onstage at the Segerstrom Center.

“I am excited to see how our partnership with this program will grow our students’ passion for the arts, and I am hopeful this passion will carry with the students and increase participation in the Theater Arts programs at Portola Middle School and Orange High School in the years to come,” stated Principal Renee Ybarra.

Participating students will strengthen their listening and speaking skills, grow their confidence and learn the sound and technological skills needed for the spring production.

The Orange Unified School District educates approximately 28,000 K-12 grade students in the Cities of Orange, Villa Park, Anaheim, Garden Grove, Santa Ana, and unincorporated county areas.  In partnership with our community, we provide a safe, equitable, and innovative culture of learning for each scholar to have a competitive EDGE as a leader.
