Orange Unified School District Leadership Launches the Orange Unified EDGE

ORANGE, CA August 9, 2019 – Orange Unified welcomed the Leadership Team to the 2019-2020 school year with a day-long meeting today to introduce new administrators and familiarize staff with the recently adopted five-year strategic plan, the Orange Unified EDGE.

This was the first step of the rollout for the Orange Unified EDGE, which includes an updated mission, vision, core values, strategic initiatives, and graduate profile. The Orange Unified EDGE focuses on four main themes:

  • Excellence in Academics and Leadership
  • Dedicated and Engaged Communication
  • Genuine Wellness and Safety
  • Efficient Utilization of Fiscal Capital

Staff is now working on specific action plans, implementation timelines, and success indicators to monitor progress toward fulfilling the goals and objectives of the strategic initiatives.

To support adoption of the Orange Unified EDGE district-wide, materials are being prepared to make the values personal, teachable, and visible for community. Each District site will have a poster on display, and community brochures are in the final stages of approval. Additionally, each site administrator was given notecards and a Challenge Coin to thank and recognize staff members who exemplify the EDGE’s core values of integrity, equity, respect, and excellence.

Superintendent of Schools Gunn Marie Hansen, Ph.D. gave the first Orange Unified EDGE Challenge Coin to Hana Brake in recognition of Focus Area 2.0, Dedicated & Engaged Communications, and for fulfilling the core value of Excellence - striving for highest standards in all endeavors by deliberately pursuing continuous growth and innovation.

School sites were also recognized for recaptured instructional minutes and ADA funding received through their Saturday Enrichment Academy programs.

A group of 90 stakeholders, including parent group representatives, city officials, staff, students, and community members worked collaboratively to provide input used to establish the foundation for the Orange Unified EDGE.  The Board of Education adopted the document at their regular meeting on July 25.
