Orange Unified Celebrates the 2019-2020 Employees of the Year

ORANGE, CA (May 22, 2019) – Orange Unified School District (OUSD) honored its Certificated, Classified, and Leadership Employees of the Year for the 2019-2020 school year at a recognition ceremony on May 15 in the District Office Board Rooms.

OUSD’s Certificated Employees of the Year are Matthew Derham, De’Anna Moore and Chanmony Yip; Classified Employees of the Year are Janet Harold, Kathy Peters and Angel Martinez; and Leadership Employees of the Year are John Albert and Scott Harvey.

“It is with great pride and admiration that we celebrate the dedicated service and exceptional work ethic of our 2019-2020 Employees of the Year,” stated Superintendent Gunn Marie Hansen, Ph.D.  “On behalf of the Board of Education, I would like to thank and congratulate these valued team members for their unwavering commitment to providing our students with the education and support they need to thrive.”

2019-20 Employees of the Year were chosen by each school, site, and department.  Candidates were nominated by his or her respective location and were interviewed by last year’s Employees of the Year and a member of the Human Resources leadership team.  Each candidate was called by name to receive a Certificate of Recognition and the honorees were individually acknowledged with gift cards from Schools First Credit Union.

Certificated Employees of the Year

Matthew Derham, Canyon High School – Physiology & STEM Teach

Matthew has served the Orange Unified School District since 2006, teaching Biology, Physiology, AVID, and Careers in Education at Canyon High School. He is currently teaching Physiology and Careers in Education.  Matthew holds a Clear Single Subject Teaching Credential in Science: Biological Sciences and Health Science with an English Learner Authorization.  In addition, he also holds a Clear Career Technical Education Teaching Credential in Education, Child Development, and Family Services, as well as Health Science and Medical Technology.

 

De’Anna Moore, Crescent Elementary School – Fourth Grade

De’Anna has worked in Orange Unified since 2003 and has taught at Crescent her entire career. During her tenure, she has taught grades 4, 5, and 6. De’Anna holds a Clear Multiple Subject Teaching Credential, a supplementary authorization in Mathematics and an English Learner Authorization.  De’Anna was recently named as one of six Orange County Teachers of the Year.

 

Chanmony Yip, Prospect Elementary School – Resource Teacher

Chanmony has served the Orange Unified School District since 2005, teaching grades TK through 5 at Fairhaven, Handy, Lampson, Jordan and currently at Prospect Elementary School. She currently serves Prospect as a Resource Teacher. Chanmony holds a Clear Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and an English Learner Authorization.

 

Classified Employees of the Year

Janet Harold, Canyon High School, Instructional Assistant, Special Ed

Janet, or “Coach” as she is referred to at Canyon High, is being honored for her work as a Para-Educator.  She has worked in Orange Unified since 1998, starting as the Girls’ Junior Varsity Golf Coach.  In 1999, Janet began working as a part-time Instructional Assistant, Special Education-Severely Disabled, and during her tenure has worked at Canyon Hills, Imperial, El Rancho and is currently at Canyon High School.  She has increased her hours over the years, but has remained in the same classification.  “Coach” is currently a 9.5 month/6 hour employee.

 

Kathy Peters, El Modena High School, Principal's Secretary

Kathy is being honored in the category of Office and Technical Services.  She has served the District since 2000, starting as an Instructional Aide at Canyon Rim. She promoted through the clerical and secretarial ranks and currently serves as the School Secretary at El Modena High. She is a 12 month/8 hour employee.

 

Angel Martinez, Lead Custodian, Yorba Middle School

Angel has served the Orange Unified School District since 2013. He began work in OUSD as a part-time Custodian at Cerro Villa Middle School. He became a full-time Custodian at Esplanade Elementary 6 months later, in 2013. He has since promoted to his current position as Lead Custodian at Yorba Middle School. Angel is a 12 month/8 hour employee.

 

Leadership Employees of the Year

John Albert, Ed.D., Principal, California Elementary School

John has served in the Orange Unified School District since 2014. He is currently the Principal of California Elementary School, the position he has held since joining the District five years ago.  John holds a Single Subject Teaching Credential in Social Science and an Administrative Services Credential.

 

Scott Harvey, Senior Executive Director, Administrative Services

Scott first began working in the Orange Unified School District in 2016 as Director of Maintenance and Operations. In 2018, Scott became Senior Executive Director, Administrative Services, primarily overseeing the work of Measure S.  Scott holds a Bachelor of Science degree from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona.
