Orange, CA – June 12, 2019 – Orange Unified is pleased to announce the promotion of Nathan Garrett, Matthew Strickland, and Bree Tippets, as well as welcome Atikah Osman to the District.
Principal, Canyon Rim Elementary School
Bree Tippets comes to this position from her current assignment of Program Coordinator and site administrator for the Orange Pre-K program. Prior to her seven years as Program Coordinator, Bree served in positions such as Coordinator, Special Education; special day class (SDC) teacher; and resource specialist teacher (RSP). She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Human Services from the University of Phoenix and a Master’s degree in Special Education from National University. Bree also holds an Education Specialist Instruction Credential-Mild/Moderate Disabilities; a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential with an EL Authorization; and a Clear Administrative Services Credential.
Principal, Serrano Elementary School
Nathan Garrett comes to this position from his current assignment at Orange High School where he has served as Assistant Principal, for the past three years. Prior to his current position, Nathan served as a teacher assigned to serve as an intervention specialist working with at-risk students at El Modena High School. Nathan also has five years of experience as a special education teacher at the high school and middle school levels. Before coming to Orange Unified, Nathan worked as an elementary school teacher in the Irvine Unified School District. Nathan holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Vanguard University and a Master’s degree in Educational Administration from Concordia University. He has a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential, an Education Specialist Instructional Credential for Mild to Moderate Disabilities, and an Administrative Services Credential.
Assistant Principal, El Modena High School
Matthew Strickland comes to this position from his current role as teacher at Villa Park High School. In addition to his duties as teacher, Matthew has taken on many pre-administrative leadership roles such as induction instructional specialist. He is trained in co-teaching strategies and practices; cognitive coaching, GLAD strategies for English Learners; literacy strategy, and curriculum design. Matthew holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from University of California, Los Angeles and a Master’s degree in Educational Administration. Matthew also holds a Single Subject: Social Science teaching credential and an Administrative Services Credential.
Assistant Principal, Villa Park High School
Atikah Osman comes to this position from her current role as a secondary teacher in the Garden Grove Unified School District. Atikah has taught a range of subjects including English, World History, AP Capstone/Seminar, and APEX credit recovery. She has taken on teacher leadership roles during her tenure at Rancho Alamitos High School such as English Learner Coordinator, Positive Behavior Intervention Strategies (PBIS) Leader, Director of Social Media, AVID Site Team Representative, Athletic Coach, and WASC Focus Leader. Atikah holds a Bachelor’s degree in English Education with an emphasis in Literature; a Master’s degree in Education, Secondary Curriculum and Instruction, from California State University, Long Beach; and is currently enrolled in a Doctoral degree program in Organizational Leadership at Brandman University. She also holds a Single Subject: English Credential with a supplemental authorization in Social Science and an Administrative Services Credential.
