Four Orange Unified Schools Achieve WASC Accreditation

Orange, CA – February 14, 2019 – Orange Unified is proud to announce that McPherson Magnet School, Portola Middle School, Santiago Charter Middle School and Yorba Middle School are each  Fully Accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Schools, Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) through June 30, 2022.

WASC accredits K-12 schools and not-for-profit, non-degree granting postsecondary institutions. Accreditation validates the integrity of a school’s programs and recognizes progress fulfilling their site’s mission and vision, in addition to successful student learning. It fosters excellence in education by encouraging school improvement through a process of continuing assessment, planning, implementation, monitoring, and reassessment based upon academic performance.

“I am very proud of the accomplishments of our school site leaders and staff,” said Superintendent Gunn Marie Hansen, Ph.D. “This recognition by WASC reaffirms their support of student achievement through 21st century learning and innovation.”

Canyon High School, Cerro Villa Middle School, El Modena High School, Orange High School, Parkside Education Center’s Community Day School and Home School programs, Richland Continuation High School, and Villa Park High School are also WASC-accredited.
