ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA, [November 14, 2019] - The Canyon Rim Elementary PTA is the proud recipient of a $5,000 grant awarded by the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim through the Disney VoluntEARS Community Fund (DVCF). The DVCF awards grants to local non-profit organizations that are nominated, selected and funded by Disneyland Resort cast members.
Jason Smith, a Canyon Rim parent with a 5th and 6th grade student, serves as the Director of Planning and Industrial Engineering at the Disneyland Resort. Mr. Smith nominated Canyon Rim for this award and presented the DVCF grant to the school at the November 6th, 2019 awards ceremony attended by Disneyland Resort cast members, Canyon Rim faculty, staff, students, PTA board and parents on the school’s campus. Disney Ambassador, Justin Rapp, announced the award to the audience and described the Disney VoluntEARS Community Fund, which is awarding 84 grants to local nonprofit organizations this year.
In detailing the reason it was important for Canyon Rim to receive this grant, Mr. Smith said, “I focus a lot on technology, so giving back to Canyon Rim not only means a lot because my kids attend this school, but also because enhancing the technology at the school is an area of interest for me personally.” The Canyon Rim PTA will apply the $5,000 grant towards upgrading the technology in the school’s 25 classrooms and STEAM Lab so the students can benefit from 21st century teaching and learning.
