Canyon High School Teacher Recognized as Most Spirited in Nation

Orange, CA – June 3, 2019 – Orange Unified is pleased to congratulate Stephanie Schweitzer for being recognized by Varsity Brands as Most Spirited Teacher at their awards ceremony in Orlando, Florida. She was selected as the winner out of 11 finalists from across the nation.

The Most Spirited Teacher Award champions a teacher who understands that achievement is more than a number in a gradebook and has a genuine love and loyalty for her school and supports it in every way possible.

Schweitzer encourages students to obtain their potential regardless of the circumstances in their life. She helps them discover the strengths they did not know they had, pursue their passions, and build confidence. She inspires students by encouraging them to get involved, and always go all out when it comes to spirit. At Canyon High School, Stephanie Schweitzer’s classroom is a place where students feel connected, safe, and enjoy spending their free time.

“When you walk into Mrs. Schweitzer’s classroom, you see somebody who absolutely loves their job,” said Canyon Principal Craig Abercrombie. “You can tell right away when students are comfortable with their teacher and feel safe and accepted in the classroom. Having that connection to school and having that support from staff members like Mrs. Schweitzer really helps students feel connected to the school and makes their high school experience all that much better.”

Varsity Brands is one of the primary providers for school branding, cheer & song spirit wear, athletic uniforms and equipment and graduation apparel across the country. The motivation behind the Varsity Brand School Spirit Award categories was to recognize students and school staff that embody school spirit and community pride. Students with higher levels of spirit perform better academically, are more involved, confident and feel happier and are more connected to their schools and communities. By creating the Varsity Brand Spirit Awards the goal was to inspire staff and students to unit in school spirit which in turn contributes to a positive school culture and student success.
