Reginald Thompkins Announced as Incoming Assistant Superintendent, Educational Services

ORANGE, CA (September 25, 2018) – Orange Unified School District is proud to welcome Reginald “Reggie” Thompkins as the District’s new Assistant Superintendent, Educational Services. He was appointed by the Board of Education at their regular meeting on September 20 and will enter his new role on November 1, 2018.

“I want to welcome Reggie to our leadership team," said Superintendent of Schools Gunn Marie Hansen, Ph.D. “His philosophy aligns with our belief that what’s best for our students comes first and foremost, and we look forward to utilizing his expertise to continue to collaboratively foster an innovative culture at school sites District-wide to support the success of the whole child.”

Thompkins comes to Orange Unified with 27 years of experience. Serving as Deputy Superintendent in the Oceanside Unified School District since 2016, he was previously Administrative Director of Instructional Support in the Corona-Norco Unified School District, where he also had experience as a high school principal.

“I'm coming with a wealth of experience from multiple districts that I hope will add to an already strong learning environment in Orange Unified,” said Thompkins. “I'm most excited and anxious to immerse myself into the OUSD school community, contributing to maximizing high quality learning opportunities and experiences for ALL of our students and staff.”

Prior to his move to Corona-Norco USD, Thompkins served as a high school principal and high school assistant principal in the Rialto Unified School District. He also has experience as high school assistant principal in the Riverside and San Bernardino City Unified School Districts. As a teacher in San Bernardino City USD, he worked as a Teacher on Special Assignment for Title 1 Programs, and before that as a teacher and athletic team coach. Additionally, Tompkins supported high school athletics by simultaneously serving as President of California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section (CIF-SS) Executive Board and California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) State Executive Board.

Reggie Thompkins is currently a Doctoral Candidate at Brandman University. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from California State University, San Bernardino, and a master’s degree in Education Administration from Azusa Pacific University. Thompkins has a Single Subject Teaching Credential in Physical Education and an Administrative Services Credential.

The position of Assistant Superintendent, Educational Services, has been filled by interim staff following the promotion of Gunn Marie Hansen, Ph.D., to Superintendent of Schools in December 2017.
