PRECONSTRUCTION WORK FOR MEASURE S UNDERWAY AND ON SCHEDULE FOR ORANGE UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT

Orange, Calif. – March 20, 2018 – After greenlighting design earlier this school year, Orange Unified School District’s $288 million Measure S bond program has continued to make significant progress at all four of the District’s high schools:  El Modena, Orange, Canyon, and Villa Park. Striving towards making Orange Unified one of the highest performing districts in the region, a large focus of Measure S is on creating new state-of-the-art science classrooms and labs, new special education classroom facilities, enhancing school safety, and other modernizations to augment the learning environment and availability of innovative programs on campus. With Measure S construction scheduled to kick off summer 2018, major pre-construction milestones have been met at each high school including:

Orange High School

  • Design is approximately 98% complete
  • New 42,300-square-foot Science Center/STEM building - construction anticipated to start winter 2018
  • The Science Center Building - 4 Chemistry Labs, 8 General Science Labs, 1 General Classroom and 2 Medically Fragile Classrooms
  • Site infrastructure improvements to be completed during summer break 2018 - new electrical service yard; new bus drop-off/pick-up lanes
  • Satellite kitchen construction - anticipated to begin fall 2018
  • Demolition completed for 5 portable buildings

El Modena High School

  • Design is approximately 98% complete
  • New 42,501-square-foot Science Center/STEM building - construction anticipated to start winter 2018
  • The Science Center Building - 4 Chemistry Labs, 8 General Science Labs, 2 General Classrooms and 2 Medically Fragile Classrooms
  • Site infrastructure improvements to be completed simultaneously with the construction of the STEM Building, new electrical service, natural gas lines and fire lanes

Canyon High School

  • Design is approximately 65% complete
  • New 61,419-square-foot Science Center/STEM building - construction anticipated to start spring 2019
  • The Science Center Building - 4 Chemistry Labs, 8 General Science Labs, 12 General Classrooms with Student Services Offices
  • Construction to begin spring 2019 - Science Center Building, Interim Kitchen Services Conversion, Renovation to Entrance of Multi-Purpose Room, 100 additional parking stalls and new drop-off/pick-up area

Villa Park High School

  • Design is approximately 98% complete
  • New 44,838-square-foot Science Center/STEM building - construction anticipated to start spring 2019
  • The Science Center Building - 4 Chemistry Labs, 8 General Science Labs, 2 General Classrooms and 2 Medically Fragile Suites
  • Install 9 new portable buildings to serve as interim classrooms; construction of the temporary classrooms anticipated to start fall 2018
