ORANGE, CA (May 9, 2018) – Orange Unified School District (OUSD) honored its Certificated, Classified, and Leadership Employees of the Year for the 2017-18 school year at a recognition ceremony today in the District Office Board Rooms.
OUSD’s Certificated Employees of the Year are Teresa Andrade, Scott Clark and Alice Prothero; Classified Employees of the Year are David Calderon, Lori Glasgow and Gloria Hain; and Leadership Employees of the Year are Cathleen Corella and Sally Hughson.
“The Board of Education and I are extremely proud of our Employees of the Year and congratulate them on their selection,” said Superintendent Gunn Marie Hansen, Ph.D. “We truly appreciate their dedication to our students and the commitment and professionalism they show in their respective roles as employees and representatives of the District. Their daily contributions reflect OUSD’s commitment to providing each student with a quality education and the resources and support needed to be successful today and tomorrow.”
The 2017-18 Employees of the Year were chosen after each school, site, and department candidate nominated by his or her respective location was interviewed by last year’s Employees of the Year and a member of Human Resources’ leadership team. Each candidate was called by name to receive a Certificate of Recognition and the eight main honorees were individually acknowledged with Certificated of Congressional Recognition from Congressman Lou Correa and gift cards from Schools First Credit Union and Orange Unified Public Schools Foundation.

Certificated Employees of the Year
Teresa Andrade, McPherson Magnet School – Resource Teacher
Teresa Andrade joined Orange Unified School District in 1999, teaching elementary classes and serving as a Resource Teacher at McPherson Magnet School. Teresa holds a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential, a Specialist Instruction Credential in Reading, and a CTE Credential in Information and Communication Technologies.
Scott Clark, Portola Middle School – Physical Education and Pre-AVID
Scott Clark joined Orange Unified School District in 1998, where he began teaching at Portola Middle School as a Physical Education Teacher. In addition to P.E., Scott currently teaches the Pre-AVID program course at Portola, where he has remained for his entire career. Scott holds a Single Subject Teaching Credential in Physical Education.
Alice Prothero, Orange High School – English and AVID
Alice Prothero joined Orange Unified School District in 1977, teaching English at Canyon High School for thirteen years before moving over to Orange High School in 1990, where she currently teaches English and AVID. Alice holds a Single Subject Teaching Credential in English.
Classified Employees of the Year
David Calderon, Head Custodian, Fletcher Elementary School
David Calderon joined Orange Unified School District in February 2013, with a part-time assignment as a night Custodian at Nohl Canyon Elementary School. He was promoted to his current position at Fletcher Elementary School in June 2015. David has an easy-going demeanor and a positive attitude. He makes connections with all students and is loved and respected by the students, parents, and staff. David also provides students with a positive male role model on-campus and maintains a good rapport with local neighbors, which helps to keep the campus graffiti and problem-free on the weekends.
Lori Glasgow, School Office Manager, Palmyra Elementary School
Lori Glasgow joined Orange Unified School District in 2002 as a part-time Instructional Assistant in Special Education. She was promoted to Senior Staff Clerk positions at several school sites over the years before being promoted to Office Manager at Palmyra Elementary in 2015. She is a positive person who approaches every interaction with students, parents and the community professionally and with a smile on her face. She is personable, customer-service focused and knowledgeable, and is quick to learn and figure things out. Lori is also an OUSD parent who has served on school site councils and WASC committees and volunteered for various school and District causes over the years.
Gloria Hain, Instructional Assistant/Special Education, West Orange Elementary School
Gloria Hain joined Orange Unified School District in 1986 as a part-time Regular Education Instructional Assistant at West Orange Elementary School. After working in this assignment for 20 years, Gloria promoted to a part-time Special Education Instructional Assistant in 2006. She is considered an integral part of West Orange, bringing out the best in her special education students and advocating for all students to get what they need to succeed. Gloria also serves as a mentor to newly hired Special Education aides, sharing her extensive experience as an invaluable tool to support the implementation student interventions.
Management Employees of the Year
Cathleen Corella, Administrative Director, K-12 Curriculum, Orange Unified School District
Cathleen Corella joined Orange Unified School District in 2012, when she was hired to serve as Administrator of English Language Services and Special Programs. In 2013, Cathleen’s position changed to Interim Administrative Director for K-12 Curriculum. In 2014, she was promoted to the position of Administrative Director for K-12 Curriculum, where she continues to serve today. Cathleen holds a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and an Administrative Services Credential.
Sally Hughson, Principal, Prospect Elementary School
Sally Hughson joined Orange Unified School District in 1997 as a third grade teacher at Handy Elementary School, before becoming the school’s Reading Resource Teacher in 2001. She remained in that position until 2006, when she accepted an opportunity to serve as a Reading First Coach for the school district. Sally was promoted to the position of Assistant Principal at Running Springs Elementary in 2007 and then to Principal at Linda Vista Elementary in 2008. After seven years at Linda Vista, Sally moved to her current assignment as Principal of Prospect Elementary School. She holds a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and an Administrative Services Credential.
Cathleen Corella, OUSD Administrative Director of K-12 Curriculum, is recognized as an OUSD Leadership Employee of the year by Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources Ed Kissee.
Sally Hughson, Principal at Prospect Elementary School, is recognized as an OUSD Leadership Employee of the year by Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources Ed Kissee.
Alice Prothero, an English and AVID teacher at Orange High School, is recognized as an OUSD Certificated Employee of the year by Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources Ed Kissee.
Scott Clark, a Physical Education and Pre-AVID teacher at Portola Middle School, is recognized as an OUSD Certificated Employee of the year by Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources Ed Kissee.
