Orange Unified Mandarin Immersion Students Participate in First Summer Dual Language STEAM Camp

Orange, CA – August 7, 2018 – Orange Unified is proud to announce that Mandarin Immersion students from Fletcher Elementary participated in the first Mandarin Dual Language STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) Camp at Cerro Villa Middle School this past week.

The Dual Language STEAM camp fulfilled the OUSD Mandarin Immersion program’s vision of increasing student achievement through the acquisition of bilingual and bicultural skills and also helped prepare students for college and careers through STEAM learning. Camp participants were instructed in Mandarin while engaged in activities such as flying drones, writing code, operating Sphero robots, and developing a deeper understanding of aerodynamic sciences by constructing their own rockets. Integrating Mandarin with STEAM learning offers Dual Language students an enriched multicultural learning environment that will provide a competitive edge in the global economy.

In addition to the Mandarin Immersion program at Fletcher Elementary, Orange Unified offers a Spanish Immersion program, hosted by California Elementary, and will be introducing the Computer Science Immersion program two elementary sites in 2019.
