ORANGE UNIFIED ANNOUNCES NEW ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT, BUSINESS SERVICES (CBO)

ORANGE, CA - April 20, 2018 - On April 12, 2018, the Board of Education took action to appoint David A. Rivera to the position of Assistant Superintendent, Business Services (CBO), for the Orange Unified School District. His first day of service will be May 14, 2018.

 Rivera most recently served as Assistant Superintendent, Administrative Services (CBO) at Anaheim Elementary School District. He has an extensive background in public school business leadership, having worked in the field of public school business since 1988, including over 10 years of experience as Chief Business Official (CBO). In addition to his work in Anaheim Elementary, Rivera was CBO in the Covina Valley Unified and South Whittier School Districts, where had significant successful experience with the implementation and oversight of capital facility bond programs. He has effectively managed school district budgets over $200 million and received outstanding references from current and former superintendents and cabinet members.

“Mr. Rivera’s excellent background in school finance and many years of experience as a Chief Business Official make him a perfect fit for Orange Unified,” stated Superintendent Gunn Marie Hansen, Ph.D. “Additionally, he has managed several School Facilities Bonds and will lend strength to the Measure S Bond Program Implementation. We look forward to welcoming Mr. Rivera to OUSD.”

Prior to becoming a CBO, Rivera spent 13 years with the Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District, serving as the Director of Fiscal Services and as an Accountant. He studied Business Administration at California State University, Long Beach and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from Pepperdine University. 

The recruitment process for this position was conducted for the District by Leadership Associates, under the direction of Peggy Lynch, Ed.D.  District staff were included in the paper-screening and interview portions and the final candidate was unanimously recommended to the Board of Education by Leadership Associates and OUSD’s Executive Cabinet.
