Expanded Transitional Kindergarten to be Offered in 2018-19 School Year

Orange, CA – February 21, 2018 – Orange Unified is excited to offer Expanded Transitional Kindergarten (ETK) to the OUSD community for the upcoming school year. TK provides a bridge between preschool and traditional kindergarten and is taught by a fully credentialed teacher with early childhood expertise.  Expanded Transitional Kindergarten is an early kindergarten experience for children turning five years old between December 3rd and March 31st.  Those children whose birthdates are in July and August may also be accepted into the TK program upon parent request.

Enrollment in TK begins March 7th.  Parents will need to go online to the Orange Unified School District website at orangeusd.org (https://www.orangeusd.org/) and select the “Transitional Kindergarten & Kindergarten (https://www.orangeusd.org/enrollment/transitional-kindergarten-kindergarten)” link under “Enrollment” in the dropdown menu.  Here, parents will find registration information and links.  Any questions about our Expanded Transitional Kindergarten program can be answered by our Elementary Education office at (714) 628-4463.

OUSD will first place all TK age children turning five between September 2nd and December 2nd at the regional sites and then the remaining spaces will be available to students whose birthdates fall within the Expanded TK range of December 3rd and March 31st.

“We are excited to be offering a new option to our OUSD community and providing the gift of time in a stimulating environment for our TK enrollees,” stated Interim Assistant Superintendent Anne Truex, Educational Services.

The District added two additional TK sites, bringing the total of 15 in the 2018-19 school year, to meet the anticipated interest in the expanded program.

Transitional Kindergarten and Expanded TK are part of the public school system and free to participating students.
