Canyon High School Alumna Crowned “America’s Favorite Dancer”

Orange, CA – September 13, 2018 – Orange Unified is proud to announce that Canyon High School alumna Hannahlei Cabanilla was voted “America’s Favorite Dancer” on the hit Fox television show “So You Think You Can Dance” on Monday night. With her victory, Cabanilla won a cash prize of $250,000, a spot on tour with “So You Think You Can Dance - Live! 2018” and will appear in Fox’s live television production of the award-winning musical “Rent” on Sunday, January 27, 2019.

Cabanilla was a member of the Canyon Comanche song team and a student in the Career Technical Education (CTE) dance program. She served as the president of Canyon’s Dance Program – “The Company” – under the direction of Andrea Greene before graduating in 2017.

“Hannahlei has a beautiful spirt and possesses extreme motivation, determination, and strength while remaining positive and humble,” Greene said about her former student. “She is destined for greatness.”

A native of Anaheim Hills, Cabanilla started dancing when she was two years-old and grew up in the Orange County Performing Arts Academy dance studio.
