Digital Citizenship Week

Orange, CA - January 24, 2017 - State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson announced on Monday that the California Department of Education (CDE),  California State Library, and Common Sense Media will celebrate Digital Citizenship Week from January 23 to 27.

Throughout Digital Citizenship Week, Orange Unified School District will continue to support CDE by providing educational resources such as The Digital Citizenship Weekly Plan state website to students, teachers, and parents. Stakeholders will also receive information about how the District is working to support local and state initiatives.

The Digital Citizenship Celebration celebration supports the California Education Technology Blueprint, published in 2014 and titled “Empowering Learning.” The second recommendation in this document - “ensure student safety by outlining policies and best practices to prevent cyberbullying and protect student data”  -  has been a focus for Orange Unified, with teachers working through District curriculum to make sure each student is being taught valuable digital life, privacy/security, copyright and cyberbullying skills utilizing the Common Sense Media Curriculum.
