The recipients of the “YOU’VE GOT THE EDGE” award for September 2024 are Hayley Cody, Teacher at Handy Elementary and Alex Chavez, Information Systems Specialist in Technology Services, OUSD Employees of the Month for September 2024.
Both Hayley and Alex go above and beyond to serve the Orange Unified School District's staff and students in ways that reflect the core values of OUSD’s EDGE.
Handy Elementary Principal Erika Krohn had this to say about Hayley:
“Mrs. Cody exemplifies each of our core values. She is an influential leader on campus spreading AVID to every classroom. She is a cheerleader for our school and our teachers and would do anything to help a colleague. Mrs. Cody is one of our Green Team advisors, a club that gardens and recycles, and helps students learn about protecting our precious Earth.”
Tam Nguyen, Chief Technology Officer, shared the following about Alex:
“Few individuals better embody the spirit of excellence in customer service than Alex Chavez. Over the past three years, Alex has consistently supported the district through every challenge with a calm, composed demeanor that helps reduce stress in difficult situations. One of our favorite sayings is, "Technology is the easy part; the key is knowing how to support people," and Alex naturally excels at this. Whether it’s leading a complicated install or facilitating training, Alex has been a steady, calming presence in an often-chaotic environment.”

“Pocas personas encarnan mejor el espíritu de excelencia en el servicio al cliente que Alex Chavez. Durante los últimos tres años, Alex ha apoyado constantemente al distrito en cada desafío con una actitud tranquila y serena que ayuda a reducir el estrés en situaciones difíciles. Uno de nuestros dichos favoritos es: "La tecnología es la parte fácil; la clave es saber cómo ayudar a la gente", y Alex naturalmente se destaca en esto. Ya sea que se trate de liderar una instalación complicada o facilitar una capacitación, Alex ha sido una presencia constante y tranquilizadora en un entorno a menudo caótico."
