Challenge Coin Recipients Represent the OUSD EDGE!

Shelly Garcia, Executive Secretary I at Special Education, was recognized by Special Education Coordinator, Kassy Makena, with an EDGE Challenge Coin!

Kassy Makena had this to say about Shelly:

Shelly Garcia is an exceptional classified leader who exemplifies the District’s core values of Integrity, Equity, Respect, and Excellence.  Shelly’s contributions to Orange Unified are immense, and words pale to express the value she brings to our organization.

Shelly excels in her role to support the District’s equity focus.  She is an expert at budgetary and state data reporting for special education. Her focus is always on students with disabilities and ensuring their success both now and in their lives to come.  She is highly skilled in the areas of data management and communication with the public, which she oversees for our department.  Not only does Shelly exemplify these skills, but she also takes pride in building the capacity of those around her.  She is dedicated to the development of classified staff who work within the special education department to expand their knowledge and invest in their professional and personal growth.  

Despite being housed at the District Office, Shelly’s heart and passion rest with our students. She is always looking for programmatic options that enhance student outcomes. A learner at heart, she is continually stretching and expanding her skill set to support the needs of the department. Shelly is our glue, binding the department together! 

Shelly is a collaborative, committed, conscientious partner within our team and District, and her contributions are truly immeasurable. Congratulations, Shelly!
