Math - Science - Technology |

|
Our magnet focus of math, science, and technology leads to an exploration to seamlessly integrate our learning experiences in a modern world, which is demanding a different skill set. Skills we teach must require students to access, retrieve, select, collect, process, collate, display, analyze, evaluate, create, and communicate information on a daily basis. We want our learners to generate products in a variety of formats and utilize data and information from multiple sources. Through this practice, our children will be able to think critically by comparing and contrasting various perspectives and analyze the causes and effects of those perspectives. Through a rigorous and relevant program, along with strong relationships with our student and parent community, 21st century skills are infused throughout the curriculum. Our children are global consumers. Students need to learn to process incoming data, to multi-task, and to sort through what is reliable and what is not. They must be able to communicate effectively, to work with a team of individuals, to creatively apply their knowledge, and be accepting to new and different cultures and ideas. As a result, our teachers teach in a setting that offers differentiated instruction to help maximize and explore the potential of each child.
An important component of our Magnet School is the compact that every family signs at the beginning of each school year. Each McPherson family commits to ten hours of school service, to behave respectfully and responsibility, to follow McPherson homework expectations and to wear McPherson uniforms. A cooperation among our dynamic community helps us live the expectations of exceptional character and scholarly attributes. Involved parents and knowledgeable and caring staff work together to provide a unique atmosphere for our children to grow and learn.
At McPherson Magnet School, we recognize the need for regular communication within our school community. Communication Folders go home every Wednesday. Every Wednesday morning - Flag ceremony and student recognition. Every Friday, a weekly newsletter is sent home via email. Each Sunday evening, a pre-recorded phone message is delivered into the homes of our families. The McPherson website provides vital information and parent resources, as well as links to our PTSA and Education Foundation websites. If you have questions regarding a particular class, the initial point of contact is the classroom teacher, and the easiest way to reach teachers is by email. (See staff page). The Parent Portal provides easy access to your child’s attendance, grades, progress reports, and other key student information. Sign up by coming into the office and completing the Request for OUSD Parent Portal Account application. Blackboard, a web-based application, is a place where teachers post their classroom management plan, classroom activities, and email address. To access Blackboard See Parent Resource tab.
The entire McPherson family and I are anxious to make a difference in each and every child’s life and to prepare them for the new and exciting challenges that lay before them. When we work together to provide the support and the proper challenge needed for success, our children will thrive.
