We the people of Imperial Elementary are dedicated to providing a personalized education in a safe environment that allows all students to achieve academic success and become productive members of the community.
In 1976, on the 200th anniversary of the birth of our nation, Imperial Elementary opened its doors to the community. Located in the lush hills of East Anaheim, students are able to enjoy the panoramic view of the San Bernardino Mountains. As the eagle soars in flight, our students strive to accomplish academic excellence.
We are a small school with 367 students and 50 staff members. As you drive up to Imperial Elementary, you will see the American flag waving high, alongside our tile American flag comprised of staff and student handprints. Mounted to the right of the tile flag is our family and community wall. Our staff, families, and community members decorated their own tiles to represent their dedication to our school. You will see a variety of plants growing in our flower boxes, which name various character traits from the “Pyramid of Success”.
Immediately upon entering our doors you will see our Step Up to Writing wall where our students proudly display their work and our colorful “Pyramid of Success” wall. This is a place for the staff and students to congregate and talk about their successes. A few steps away is our media center, which is the center of our school. You will see students huddled around our librarian reading a book, while others are on computers taking reading comprehension quizzes and working on PowerPoint presentations.
As you walk from class to class you will see collaboration abound, easily accomplished because we are all under one roof. You will see primary grades switching classrooms during the differentiated reading instruction period. In the upper grades you will see fourth grade Special Day Class students walking around the corner into a fourth grade regular education classroom to receive instruction. Staff and students will greet you with a smile and point you in the right direction should you lose your way. They are so much a part of our school you may not be able to distinguish who they are, but parent volunteers can be seen everywhere. They are in the PTA area working on an upcoming “fun-raiser”, in the office assisting the office staff, and in the classrooms teaching small groups. We are one big family all learning under the same roof.
As you walk onto our playground you will notice a newly paved blacktop and students playing cooperatively in games as learned through “Peaceful Playgrounds”. You may even see Mr. Eagle, our school mascot, “flying” around as he brings school spirit to the students in their red Imperial shirts.
As you leave the school at the end of the day you will encounter a number of after-school programs in progress. Education is not simply over when the last bell has rung. Students can be heard learning a variety of songs in “Musical Minds”, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts will be busily figuring ways to better our community, and students will be improving their strategic reasoning skills during Chess Masters.
At the end of your journey through our progressive and innovative school, you will truly realize this school's vision, for it is Imperial's students who soar with eagles and on into greatness.
