Peaceful Playgrounds is a program designed to reduce conflict and bullying in the schoolyard. Students are taught school rules to a variety of games, both traditional and non-traditional. Students and teachers use a campus-wide set of strategies for conflict resolution. For example, "Walk, talk, or rock" means to either leave the game, discuss the issue without holding up the game, or end the disagreement by playing Rock, Paper, Scissors.
Fletcher is privileged to be one of the few schools in Orange Unified to participate in the R.E.A.D. (Reading Education Assistance Dogs) program sponsored by The Animal Health Foundation Pet Partners. The goal of this program is to enhance the quality of life through the human/animal bond. Students who struggle in the area of reading, read with a trained dog and reading tutor for approximately 30 minutes per week for 8 weeks. The benefits to students include increased reading skills, improved reading comprehension, more self-confidence, a positive attitude towards reading, and a new special friendship.
The Fletcher School Age Care program provides a safe, stable and stimulating environment for school age children. The SAC program is based on the principle that school age care programs exist for the purpose of promoting, supporting and enhancing the school age child's environment. School days are for academics, after-school is for life skills. Our program is available from 7:00am to 6:00pm. Please call 532-8084 for more information or e-mail us @ dfraser@orangeusd.org.
Fletcher School has a partnership with Santiago Community College through the AmeriCorps program. College students tutor Fletcher students weekly in the areas of reading and mathematics. This is a great opportunity for our students to receive individualized assistance with academics.
ExCEL (Excellence, Celebrating Every Learner) is a reading plan used by Fletcher staff. Using District assessment tools, teachers divide students into study groups of comparable abilities. Students work with others at their own level on skills pertinent to their progress. All students have access to State and District approved reading materials.
