Matching students to texts at appropriate levels helps to increase their confidence, competence, and control over the reading process. The Lexile Framework for Reading is a reliable and tested tool designed to bridge two critical aspects of student reading achievement - leveling text difficulty and assessing the reading ability of each student.

Scholastic Reading Counts

Making our students better readers is an important goal at Fletcher. To help us achieve our goal we have implemented Scholastic's Reading Counts reading program.

What is Reading Counts?

Reading Counts is a computer comprehension and management program that helps encourage and monitor independent reading.

Here's how it works!!!

  1. Students select a book that has a quiz and is at their proper Lexile (reading) level
  2. Students read the entire book at their own pace and review for understanding
  3. Students take a short quiz on the computer to verify comprehension

Fletcher’s library of Reading Counts quizzes has grown to over 39,000. The library has a large selection of Reading Counts books. Although many of the quizzes available are for our school library books, the listing is NOT limited to our school’s library selection. Quizzes may be available for books from the classroom library, the public library, or your home library.
