In 2001, Cris began his career in the Orange Unified School District
as a Substitute Custodian. He was then hired as a permanent Night
Custodian at Running Springs Elementary. As of July of 2006, he is
now the Head Custodian at Villa Park Elementary. Cris has blended in
perfectly with the staff, students and parents due to his easy-going,
helpful attitude. Whenever any staff member has a problem in a
classroom, Cris is right there to clean up a mess or fix whatever is
broken. He is respected by all staff members who frequently comment
on his hard work and dedication. The students respect him due to his
friendly way of interacting with them. Parents also respect him for
his great work, attitude and conscientiousness. Many days when the
school is shorthanded with noon supervisors, he steps right in and
helps out in the yard while still taking care of his custodial
duties. He goes well above and beyond the call of duty on a daily
basis. When you think of “Service with a Smile!” you think of Mr.
Cris Monroy.
Kristanna Plumb is the definition of dedication. She was hired in
1996 as a Special Education Instructional Assistant at Esplanade. A
year later, she was promoted to her current position as Library Media
Technician at Fletcher Elementary School. Kristanna takes pride in
her job. She works long hours and goes the extra mile to ensure that
the students at Fletcher have a top-notch library. The students love
going to the library to read their favorite books and take Reading
Counts quizzes on the computers. She knows every student by name and
even remembers their reading levels and favorite genres! In addition
to supporting reading in the library, Kristanna also supports the
school-wide ExCEL program in the classroom by helping small groups of
Kindergartners with reading comprehension skills. For eight years she
has been the coordinator of the Reading is Fundamental (R.I.F.)
program at Fletcher and she also participates in the National Read
Across America program. The staff members at Fletcher can always
depend on Kristanna to complete tasks and provide leadership when
needed. They are very fortunate to have her on their team!
Laura Smith began her career with the District in 1986 as a Food
Service Assistant. She then moved on to an Instructional Assistant at
Canyon High School wanting to assist students with their education.
In 1991, she promoted to Health Clerk, Secondary. As a Health Clerk,
Laura has proven to herself and others to be professional and
knowledgeable in all that she handles. She tries her very best to
create a safe place for students and staff “A place where they can
come if they are sick, mad, hurt or sad”. Laura has incredible
patience as she deals with a myriad of student concerns in the health
office. She treats all students with respect and compassion. She is
diligent in her record keeping and keeps teachers alert to the needs
of their students. Laura consistently displays a high work ethic and
is an outstanding example for all of us to follow. She is an
