Laptop Program
Laptop
classes are infused with technology. Students
utilize their own laptops* to complete class
assignments and access online resources. At the high
school level, OUSD offers 9th grade
English, grades 10-12 English and History. (Course
availability varies for each high school.) At
McPherson Magnet School, the laptop
program is available for students in grades 6-8.

Goals and Objectives of Laptop Classes
The purpose of the
laptop program is to provide a comprehensive variety
of teaching and learning strategies that will
augment the curriculum and prepare students with
lifelong skills essential for their success in an
ever-changing digital world.
Laptop Students will
§ Complete assignments electronically.
§ Demonstrate a commitment to effectively utilize the
laptop as a creative learning tool.
§ Begin
to take responsibility for their own learning by
monitoring their own progress, utilizing all of the
resources made available to them, and keeping track
of their assignments.
Laptop Teachers will
§ Maximize the use of laptops as instructional tools
to enhance curriculum delivery and student
assessment.
§ Use
Blackboard to construct a safe, collaborative
learning environment, for both parents and students,
that is accessible anytime, anywhere.
§ Utilize announcements, discussion boards and
assignments for student/parent access.
Laptop Specifications
Requirements:
§ Students can lease or purchase their own laptops. *Please
contact your school’s principal for loaner laptop
information.
§ Students bring their laptops to class every day.
Recommendations:
§ Insurance against theft (Homeowner’s insurance may
cover theft of laptop.)
