Cerro Villa Middle School

Principal's Message

Sue Baden - Principal

Welcome to Cerro Villa Middle School.

We are one of five middle schools in Orange Unified School District and we are proud of our 45 year tradition of excellence in this great city of Villa Park.  With the belief that our responsibilities include the total education of students, we offer a variety of experiences.  Our 38 teachers meet as Professional Learning Communities and give students standards-based instruction using common language, common assessments, and appropriate department-organized interventions.  Supporting the academics, our programs include Zero Tolerance Homework plan, After-School Tutoring, Saturday School, and Academic Tune-Ups.

Our hard work is reflected in our CST scores, rising 11 points last year to a score of 833.

Extra-curricular experiences include After School Sports, Reading Club, Mathobotix Club, Science Olympiad, Science Club, Improv Club, Future Business Leaders of America, Foreign Language Clubs, and Character Cabinet.  Our Leadership Class works hard, planning activities including dances, QSP Magazine Sale, and other special events.

We invite parents to log onto Parent Portal to view their students’ grades, to contact teachers via email, and to call our school office with any questions regarding Cerro Villa.  Our assistant principal, Joey Erven, and our two counselors, Jennifer Van Horik and Dorothy Glickman are available should you have questions regarding your child’s education.

We are anxious to serve you and we enjoy this opportunity to give our students a superior education.

STREET SAFETY

As you are already aware Cerro Villa Middle School is located in the middle of a difficult traffic pattern between Serrano Elementary and Villa Park High School that is compounded at peak traffic times before and after school. We are particularly concerned about student safety. While Ms. Baden and I are supervising students at these times we cannot possibly be everywhere or see everything on this large campus. Therefore, we are asking parents and students to assist us with the following:

• Students must use the crosswalks at Dodson, Featherhill, Nichols and Santiago and Serrano streets.

• Park, pick up or drop off near the crosswalks to encourage students to use the crosswalks.

• Drop off students at the NE corner of Nichols where there is a crosswalk.

• Refrain from parking in the bike lanes so students can use the bike lanes for their bicycles.

• Students must consider respectful treatment of our neighbor’s property when waiting on the lawns and planters for parents.

We appreciate the conversations you have at home emphasizing safe behavior to and from school. Please feel free to contact us should you have information, concerns, or suggestions that serve to improve the street safety around our campus. Thank you.
Ms. Baden and Mr. Erven
